“A set of beautiful melodic and nordic inspired jazz with music from their two albums […] The danish guitarist Kristoffer Vejslev has created a group that makes floating jazz levitate”

On the album Some Things Stay Broken:

” Vulture Forest’s lyrical language and smooth soundscapes are obsessively inner-directed, generating a relaxing introspective spell. In order to absorb the maximum of what this recording has to offer, you got to disconnect from the bustle of the world. The experience can be more energizing than you think” Read the full review

“Spherical/ambient jazz with cinematic elements.

A dreamy album where you’re alone with your inner thoughts” Listen to the radio segment

“Everything takes place at a slow place. This is where the drama of the music lies. Winsome melodies are developed and commented in a tonal setting” Read the full review

“It is floating and cinematic jazz, with a touch of something bittersweet almost melancholic on the 2nd album. It is collaborative jazz where the combined expression of the musicians makes an impression. Vejslev has a strong grasp of the music and the musicians” Read the full review

On the album Vulture Forest:

"a certain cinematic melodicism is achieved in a rhythmic environment that sits on the periphery of swing and the attitude of cool blues.  “Past Your Bedtime” reflects this approach with a quick step, while “Bittersweet” goes about it at the pace of moonlight crossing the floor"

"contains more meditative elements and is considerably more melancholic, dreamy and sounds more European, compared to the Americans. You rather find yourself in the endless snow-covered woods of Sweden or Norway" Read the full review

“It's floating, modal and ambient jazz. Cinematic jazz, where the musicians put aside their egos in order to merge into a collective whole. If you like Jakob Bro or Jakob Sørensen you have come to the right place" Read the full review

BIO

Cover designs: Ursula Blix

While studying jazz at the Conservatory of Amsterdam the four musicians of Vulture Forest coming from Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and South Africa came together in their desire to create music that would draw from contemporary jazz while moving beyond to uncharted realms. Vejslev working with a pallet of thick dark nordic colors creates organic open compositions that are shaped actively by the four musicians who in turn are guided by their strong melodic content.

In 2017 the group released their self-titled debut album and in 2019 the album Some Things Stay Broken. Both albums have been featured on the national broadcasting radio channels for jazz in Denmark and in the Netherlands with more than a 100 plays (P8)and with a live performance (NPO2). The group has also received a multitude of postive reviews at home and abroad. In 2019 the group was one out of two bands that was recommended by Niels Overgaard (Jazznyt) on P8 as a must see live performance during the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

The group has toured in The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Slovenia and Switzerland and in Denmark the group has participated in the Copenhagen Jazz Festival each year since 2017.  The group now resides both in Amsterdam and Copenhagen.
